Thrive Tours is an Indigenous-owned and operated tour company based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. We specialize in providing unique and immersive outdoor experiences that offer participants an opportunity to learn about and connect with Indigenous history, traditions, and the natural world.

Position Overview:
Thrive Tours Inc. is seeking a passionate, energetic, and knowledgeable Day Camp Leader to join our team for the summer season. The role involves leading, teaching, and inspiring child & youth through a variety of land and water-based activities, with a focus on Indigenous cultural education and environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in outdoor education, a deep respect for Indigenous cultures, and a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:
-Plan, lead, and facilitate daily camp activities, including kayaking, canoeing, interpretive hiking, bushcraft skills, and Indigenous art workshops.
-Educate campers about Indigenous history, culture, and traditions in a respectful and engaging manner.
-Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers by adhering to and enforcing safety guidelines and protocols.
-Collaborate with the camp team to develop and implement environmental education programs.
-Foster a fun, inclusive, and supportive camp environment for youth of diverse backgrounds.
-Manage and resolve any camper conflicts or challenges in a positive and effective manner.
-Maintain camp equipment and ensure responsible use of all facilities.
-Provide mentorship and guidance to campers, encouraging personal growth and cultural understanding.
-Communicate regularly with the Senior Camp Coordinator and other staff members to ensure the highest quality of camp experience.

Required Skills:
Qualifications:
-Experience in outdoor education, child & youth leadership, or a related field.
-Strong knowledge of, or background in, Indigenous cultures and traditions.
-First Aid and CPR certification.
-Excellent leadership and communication skills.
-Ability to work well in a team and adapt to changing situations.
-Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
-Ability to swim and knowledge of water safety (certifications in lifeguarding or water-based activities are a plus).
-Criminal background check and vulnerable sector screening.
Requirements:
Desirable Skills:
-Knowledge of environmental conservation practices.
-Experience in mentoring or coaching children and youth.
-Familiarity with local flora and fauna.
-Skills in Indigenous art forms or traditional crafts.

Working Conditions:
-Outdoor setting with varying weather conditions.
-Physical activity including hiking, paddling, and other outdoor pursuits.
-Regular interaction with youth and team members.

*This is a Summer Canada Student Job Program
