Thrive Tours is an Indigenous-owned and operated tour company based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. We specialize in providing unique and immersive outdoor experiences that offer participants an opportunity to learn about and connect with Indigenous history, traditions, and the natural world.

Position Overview:
Thrive Tours Inc. is seeking a skilled and passionate Native Craftwork Instructor to lead workshops and activities centred around traditional Indigenous craftwork. The role involves teaching various forms of Indigenous art, such as beadwork, basket weaving, painting, or traditional garment making, in alignment with the cultural traditions and practices of the local Indigenous communities. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and personal experience in Native craftwork, along with a desire to share this knowledge with individuals of diverse age groups and backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:
-Plan and conduct workshops on various Native craftwork, ensuring they are culturally respectful and authentic.
-Educate participants about the cultural significance, history, and traditions behind each craft.
-Demonstrate and guide participants through the process of creating traditional Indigenous crafts.
-Prepare materials and tools needed for each workshop, ensuring they are safe and appropriate for use.
-Foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
-Collaborate with the Cultural Programs Coordinator to develop workshop curriculum and materials.
-Manage the setup and cleanup of the workshop space.
-Address any participant inquiries or concerns regarding craftwork techniques or cultural aspects.
-Stay updated on and incorporate new techniques and ideas relevant to Indigenous craftwork.

Required Skills:
-Demonstrated experience in Indigenous craftwork with a portfolio of work.
-Knowledge of Indigenous cultural traditions and history related to the crafts being taught.
-Excellent teaching and communication skills, with the ability to engage participants of all ages.
-Organizational skills for planning and executing workshops.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Respectful and sensitive approach to Indigenous cultures and traditions.
-First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
Requirements:
Desirable Skills:
-Experience in teaching or leading workshops.
-Ability to incorporate storytelling or cultural teachings into craftwork sessions.
-Bilingual abilities, especially in local Indigenous languages, are highly advantageous.

Working Conditions:
-Workshop or classroom settings, both indoor and outdoor.
-May require handling of materials and tools related to craftwork.
-Interaction with diverse groups, including children, youth, and adults.
-Support Thrive Tours outdoor programming

*This is a Summer Canada Student Job Program
